Statement

An Artist's work is full of the re-creation of moments, when we are completely present but also “lost” in the moment, or at least wanting to be! Being creative is intimate study of a subject and one’s self, in the most experiential way. It is the act of searching to recapture and express the essence of things that is most powerful. The resulting products are translations; they are attempts to communicate huge emotions where words cannot compete.

Bio, exhibitions

I grew up in northeastern Alberta, Canada, and after three years of formal education in Calgary and Red Deer, led a home-based business in eastern Ontario, working freelance while my two boys were young. Also volunteering at schools, I developed murals and educational projects with Jr. Kindergarden – Gr. 6 classes around themes of Art History, multiculturalism, and environmental issues.
Until moving to the United States in 2002, commissions for individuals and corporate clientele utilized a variety of media, styles and subjects. Working within limited budgets and deadlines for Interior Designers and their associates also extended my creative edge. The capacity to improvise on the spot became a great asset to future work in general and paintings on canvas.

My career is now reestablished in Texas with an entirely new body of artwork, mostly mostly paintings in acrylics. In 2009 I was honored to receive Artist of the Year by the Visual Arts Society of Texas (VAST). While participating in juried competitions and exhibitions with other artists, the bulk of current subject matter has been of trees and forests toward a solo exhibition entitled Dancing With Trees.

I accept requests for customized, personalized paintings of any size and almost any subject, including pet portraits. The initial meeting to discuss concepts, plus one mock-up sketch are free of charge. Human — re: family-specific — portraits now require a non-refundable 50% deposit. I also design fabric to coordinate with wallpaper, other fabrics and themes.

Images and ideas are powerful, and presenting them is what I do best, ultimately as a traditional Artist most comfortable painting or drawing. My approach toward Art emphasizes value in the work process where means to expression are diverse, and despite the outcome, creativity is an attitude toward life.
